About Americo's

Started on Hixson Pike, still here.

Americo started this lawn-care work on the Hixson Pike grid more than twenty years ago. Same trucks, same family, same routes — most of the customers on the standing list now were on the list ten and fifteen years back.

It's a small crew. Father and son out together on most jobs, with one or two helpers when the schedule fills up. Plain work, done the way it's been done since the beginning: mow, edge, blow off the drive, trim what needs it, take down small limbs, haul off the brush.

The routes run up the western shore of Chickamauga Lake to Soddy-Daisy, south into Red Bank, through Middle Valley and the Dallas Bay marinas. Lake-shore lots are different from town lots — more leaf drift off the water, more shade, more low limbs from the hardwood canopy. We plan for that.

Same family, same routes, more than twenty years. Most of today's standing list was on the list ten years back.

What we do — Hixson & lake shore

Three things, done the same way for two decades.

Lawn, bush, and tree work — plus the seasonal pushes that change how a lake-shore yard looks.

  • Lawn care

Standing route or one-off. Tall fescue in the shaded hardwood lots, bermuda where the sun reaches. Mow, edge, trim, blow off the drive.

  • Bush trimming

Shaping, height control, fence-line and walkway clean lines. Foundation hedges around lake-shore homes, boxwood and holly trims, dock-side shrub work.

  • Tree cutting

Small saplings, hanging limbs, dead-wood pruning, anything under four inches. Common after a storm rolls off the lake. Larger removals we'll point you to a tree company we trust.

  • Leaf cleanup

October through early December — pin oaks, hickories, maples. Lake-shore lots get the wind-drift off the water; we plan two passes most years.

  • Mulch beds

Hardwood or pine-straw, your call. Weed-pull first, fresh-cut bed edges, three-inch fill. Spring refresh on the standing list.

  • Seasonal seeding

Pre-emergent late February, fescue overseed in October. Scheduled into the standing route so you don't have to track the dates.

Two generations · same routes

Father and son, on the same Hixson list.

Americo has been running this lawn-care work since the early 2000s. His son rides out with him most weeks now. A lot of the customers on today’s standing list were on the list ten and fifteen years back. Same trucks, same family, same routes up the western shore of Chickamauga Lake.

Why it matters for your yard: when a route stays in the same family for two decades, the small things stop being small. The crew knows which lake-shore lots get the wind-leaf drift first, which Hixson Pike yards grow bermuda under the maples, and which gates stick. You don’t have to retrain anyone, ever.

A year on a Hixson lake-shore yard

Twelve months, zone 7a.

Hixson sits in USDA zone 7a — transition-zone turf, hardwood-canopy shade on the older grid, and steady wind-leaf drift off Chickamauga Lake from October on. Here’s how we work the standing list across the year.

  1. Dormant scan

Walk the lots. Mark any storm-broken limbs over the carports and dock approaches before the wind picks up again.

  2. Pre-emergent late month

Soil temp 55° for a few days running. Pre-emergent goes down on the standing list — bermuda lots first, then fescue.

  3. Spring scalp + edge

First mow drops bermuda crowns low, fescue gets a clean edge, mulch beds get a weed-pull pass before refresh.

  4. Mulch refresh

Hardwood or pine-straw — your call. Bed edges cut fresh, three-inch fill. Foundation hedges get the first shape.

  5. Weekly route up

Standing route shifts to weekly. Bermuda overseed for the bare spots in full-sun lots. Boxwood and holly trims.

  6. Heat-rise edges

Edging, trimming, blow-off — keep clean lines around mailboxes and dock approaches. Hose-bib checks on the lake lots.

  7. Storm-watch month

Afternoon storms blow off the lake. Small limbs land — we clear them on the next scheduled visit, no extra ticket.

  8. Fescue plan

Soil test the shaded lots that struggled. Plan the October overseed — quantity, blend, watering window.

  9. Last weekly cuts

Fescue tightens up, bermuda starts to slow. End-of-September is the cutoff to book a fall slot.

  10. Fescue overseed + first leaves

Fescue overseed on the standing route. First wind-drift of leaves off the lake by week three — first cleanup pass.

  11. Heavy leaf push

Pin oaks, hickories, maples all drop. Two passes most years on lake-shore lots. Hedges get the late shape-up.

  12. Final cleanup + gutters

Last leaf pass usually early December. Gutter clean-out add-on if you want it before the hard freeze.

You don’t have to track any of this. Americo works the calendar into the standing route — pre-emergent in late February, mulch in April, fescue overseed in October, leaf cleanup through November. The dates show up because the truck does.

Reviews — Hixson neighbors

Plain compliments from the standing list.

  • Americo and his crew have been doing my parents' yard since I was in high school. They show up on the same day every week, never miss, never raise the price out of nowhere.

    B. McCallister

    Hixson

  • Storm took a big limb off the maple and it was hanging over the driveway. Called Americo on a Sunday — he was out Tuesday, cleaned it up, hauled the brush, no drama.

    K. Lindsey

    Soddy-Daisy

  • Fair price, steady work, real family operation. They know the lake-shore lots — they don't try to mow the dock approach with a zero-turn.

    R. Hammond

    Lakesite

  • Have used them for the hedges and the fall leaf push for years. Easy to reach, the work is clean, and they're nice people. Worth the call.
